“if Ndella’s ‘Gone’ doesn’t make you cry you’re dead inside” – Complex
Three years on from its incarnation, London based independent label 37 Adventures are celebrating their successes with the release of “Odd Numbers Volume 1” – a compilation showcasing a selection of the label’s excellent roster. Combining 13 tracks of both recently released and brand new, unheard material, Odd Numbers will be released on Friday.
Today they have announced the full tracklisting, which includes a brand new, unheard track by JONES and the beautiful ‘Gone’ by newcomer Ndella, which premiered yesterday on Complex, who were struck by her “arresting, emotionally-wrought voice”. Ndella is a Goldsmiths graduate, who was discovered after uploading a cover of Little Dragon’s ‘Twice‘ to Soundcloud, which she put together and sung at her sister’s wedding last year. She worked with one half of Kaleida (Cicely Goulder) to produce ‘Gone‘.
Another one of the featured tracks; ‘Saltwater‘ by London/Berlin duo Geowulf, just hit top 5 in Spotify’s Global and US Viral Charts, has been described as “one of the summer’s strongest songs” by The Line of Best Fit, named a top track by i-D and continues to gain support on UK radio airwaves, including BBC Radio 1.
Established in 2013, 37 Adventures was founded by the team behind 679 Artists, headed by Nick Worthington, previously Head of A&R at XL Recordings & Founder of 679 Artists. During that period, Nick signed and worked with artists such as The Streets, Plan B, Basement Jaxx, DFA 1979, Kano, Mystery Jets and Marina & The Diamonds.
London songstress JONES is one of the more prominent artists to feature on the compilation. She has followed an impressive path to success over the past twelve months racking up play counts in the multiple millions for her singles ‘Hoops‘, ‘Indulge‘ and latest release ‘Melt‘. JONES’ contribution to the compilation is the wistful ‘Air‘; a brand new cut from the songstress, whose debut album ‘New Skin‘ is scheduled for release in October. With Sam Smith declaring her music “f*cking beautiful” and being named as one of Spotify’s Spotlight Artists for 2016, huge things await the singer.
Another notable mention is for young Brighton by way of Vienna producer salute, who commanded the attention of BBC radio tastemakers Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart with his early releases. On his debut EP ‘Gold Rush‘, featuring acclaimed vocalist Abra, he demonstrates his incredible talent in high end electronic production.
Also on Odd Numbers Volume 1 is mARQUIS cOMPRESSOR; an enigmatic producer somewhere between Phil Collins and Jai Paul. Rising South London talent MTMBO keeps his cool as plenty of hype builds around his music and visual aesthetic. Khusi is no stranger to the music industry, and probably the most “seasoned” to feature, given his series of releases under his own name and as 1/3 of Strong Asian Mothers. Fans of Flying Lotus will be excited by Cautious Clay; a musical virtuoso with a background in Jazz saxophone and big bands. Duo Burhou blew everyone away with their track ‘Please Delete‘ last year, and have worked on the live shows of Royce Wood Junior, Mura Masa and Nao.
Elsewhere young UK producer Haich will appeal to SBTRKT supporters and MRWIZE blurs the lines between R&B, rap and fashion. Ndella‘s voice will stop you in your tracks, and Tyne (fka Grace Sarah) is the Sofar Sounds and BBC Introducing starlet from Cambridge, who produces cool, contemporary pop music rooted in folk.
