Gary Langan, one of the world’s leading recording engineers, producers and musicians, will be sharing his experiences on forming The Art of Noise, his English avant-garde synth-pop group, and seeing it through to its international success, during an interactive seminar at The Indulgence Show, as part of “The Inside Track” series. London’s newest lifestyle entertainment event is returning to Novotel Conference Centre in Hammersmith, from September 29 – October 1 2017.

Along with programmer J. J. Jeczalik, arranger Anne Dudley, music journalist Paul Morley and producer Trevor Horn, who joined the group at a later stage, Gary launched his band in early 1983, and enjoyed several international Top 20 hits with “Kiss” and the instrumental “Peter Gunn”, which won a 1986 Grammy Award. At the show, he will expand on the digital sampler technology used to collate novel melodic sounds, which was a break-through at the time. He will also discuss why The Art of Noise was initially branded as a faceless non-group, blurring the boundaries between art and the creators behind it.

Gary’s varied career has spanned four decades and has seen him work with Queen, Yes, Spandau Ballet and ABC, recently overseeing the SACD remaster of Jeff Wayne’s ‘War of the Worlds’.

His journey in the industry began at the age 18 when he worked as an assistant engineer at Sarm Studios (East) where he learnt from Gary Lyons and Mike Stone, whom he assisted on the Queen albums ‘A Night at the Opera’, ‘A Day at the Races’, and ‘News of the World’. After assisting on Queen’s albums, Gary went onto produce ‘The Lexicon of Love’ for ABC and ‘Through The Barricades’ for Spandau Ballet.

Vernon Hamblin, producer of The Indulgence Show, says, “The addition of Gary to our roster of eminent speakers at the event reinforces our aim of offering a show that mixes entertainment and high-end products with informative speakers and content that visitors may have never heard before. Gary has had a career most people would envy as he has worked across a variety of genres including pop, rock and new wave, which we have all listened to at some point in our lives, and we are looking forward to hosting him at The Indulgence Show. The stories from the studio that he will share during “The Inside Track” seminars will provide an insight into the industry as well as highlight key moments in his career that have shaped the way he works with singers and bands in the studio.”

The Indulgence Show, London’s newest lifestyle entertainment event, is returning to Novotel Conference Centre in Hammersmith, from September 29 – October 1 2017, to bring visitors high-end luxury products including cars, motorised recreational vehicles, home entertainment products, headphones and much more. The event, which is designed to appeal to discerning consumers with high disposable income, will be bigger and better than ever with new and exciting exhibitors joining the line-up demonstrating brands such as Porsche Design; Can-Am; SEA-DOO; PMC; KEF; Devialet; Naim Audio; Vinyl Resellers; Focal and Ross Halfin Photography.
