“[Bottoms Up] boasts a fiercely fuzzy bassline, and Nick Valensi’s nimble guitar lines… If Kate booted Jules out of the way and started fronting The Strokes, this is the music they’d make.”

“a heck of a lot of fun”
“Talk about long overdue: This is the first solo album from Pierson, the longtime singer and fashion-plate deluxe of the B-52’s.”
– The Boston Globe
“…a sharp pop punch.”

Kate Pierson – iconic voice and founding member of the B52s, punk, new wave, genre-defying band, has released her debut solo record Guitars and Microphones, out TODAY via Lazy Meadow Music/Kobalt Label Services. Produced by Tim Anderson (Ima Robot), the album features Nick Valensi (The Strokes) on several tracks, with songwriting by Sia,who executive produced the album. The album is available now on iTunes, Amazon andBarnes & Noble.
The highly anticipated arrival of Guitars and Microphones has Pierson making waves all around. In addition to appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live last night, catch Kate sitting in with Late Night with Seth Meyers’ 8G Band for a four-night stint starting March 2nd, airing 12:35/11:35c on NBC!
She recently appeared on WNYC’s Studio 360 and People Magazine where she shared insights on the new record and performed album cuts “Bring Your Arms” and “Guitars and Microphones,” live for some of first times. Kate also recently became the first non-critic to curate USA Today’s weekly Playlist, and this week will appear on Entertainment Weekly’s“Must List”.
Revered for her anthemic pop chops, Kate’s songs are rife with girl group wit, drama, and rejection of stereotypes, and her solo offerings are big songs with bigger meanings. Along with her 4-decade career as a B52, Pierson has collaborated with The Ramones, Iggy Pop, David Byrne and REM. Guitars and Microphones marries party rock, psychedelia and socio-political punk. This is humanism and feminism out for a real good time.
