Robbing Millions ~ In the No Air
“Easygoing funk verses filled with gently swaying instrumentals float down into purely astral vortexes on the bridges, coaxing the listener to go with the flow of the trip.” Consequence of Sound
“Unlike anything we’ve heard in quite some time! Damn!” The 405
“a sound that is both danceable but also features some guitar chops and atmospherics (Scritti Politti by way of Mew?)” Brooklyn Vegan
In the new music video for ‘In the No Air’, the bouncing, playful new psych-pop single from Robbing Millions, Lucien Fraipont and Gaspard Ryelandt explore the city by night, capturing their anti-rockstar antics with grainy, home-recorded footage.
The track is an ode to Robert Wyatt’s number of the same name, and describes a bickering couple with a dog who have fallen on hard times. Their last hope is a holiday which they then appear unable to afford. Complete with the ultimate anti-hero phrase: “When I go out I picture myself in a movie – I am the hero who’s lost a lot of weight.”
The group, lead by former improvisational jazz guitarist Fraipont and his childhood friend and cartoonist Ryelandt, also recently dropped by StuBru in Belgium to cover legendary thrash-metallers Metallica – always ones to make the unexpected choice…
As well as taking inspiration from bands in the new psychedelic school (MGMT, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Tame Impala), Robbing Millions’ sound is also influenced by pop, rock, jazz and traditional Congolese music. These spread of influences coupled with Fraipont and Ryelandt’s unique vocal harmonies gives Robbing Millions a sound of their own.
