Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine today releases new single ‘Jupiter’, the latest to be lifted from his much-anticipated second album, I Tell A Fly, which will be released through Behind / Virgin EMI on September 15. ‘Jupiter’ follows previous singles ‘Phantom Of Aleppoville’ and ‘God Save The Jungle’ – the latter premiering via 6Music, for whom Benjamin recently played a Lauren Laverne live session – and an acclaimed appearance at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival, the Guardian describing Clementine as a “rare, unvarnished and unpredictable artist… evoking David Bowie, Radiohead and Anonhi”. Recently the subject of The South Bank Show, Benjamin Clementine’s I Tell A Fly follows debut album At Least For Now, which was awarded the Mercury in 2015 and a collaboration this year with Damon Albarn for the latest Gorillaz album. To follow the release of I Tell A Fly, Clementine will play a series of UK & European headline dates through November and December, including London’s Brixton Academy on December 5th. A New York show at Carnegie Hall is also on sale for October 5. Listen to ‘Jupiter’ here.
Informed by a U.S. visa describing him as ‘an alien’, Jupiter’ finds Clementine exploring ideas of identify, both personal and universal. “Seeing my visa just opened everything for me” says Clementine; “Saying ‘Jupiter’ for me was like saying ‘Europa’, or ‘England’, or ‘Edmonton’. Me wandering around in America….there was Trump and Clinton, there was the Orlando attack, the New Orleans attack – here I was thinking I was living in a safe place, but nothing was really safe any more, or ever. It’s a poke at people being called aliens by some people, like we’re from another planet. I think we’re all forever aliens”.
Recent praise for Clementine
Truly extraordinary Sunday Times Culture

Nothing short of magic Dork
Just in case his Mercury Prize-winning debut album and, more recently, his collaboration with Gorillaz on ‘Hallelujah Money’ wasn’t clear enough: he’s not just here to entertain, he’s here to say something Loud & Quiet
