Billie Marten’s rather wonderful video for new track, La Lune.
Speaking of the video Billie says, “I found these old VHS’s at home and I remembered there was a load of footage of our family wandering around Whitby beaches and BnBs. The song’s all washy and dreamy and it instantly made me think of that. We borrowed some friends film camera for a few months but also managed to capture a lot of sentimental moments too. I love watching it.”
Billie Marten is pleased to unveil the B-side to recent single Milk & Honey, available today on 7” vinyl through Chess Club Records & RCA, alongside news of her debut UK headline tour and a run of festival dates this Summer.
Accompanied by childhood footage compiled by Billie herself, the sublime La Lune is “a nostalgic nod to a time last Summer where I really badly sunburnt my face, but also about instinctive feelings of being home, without the ‘heat’ of everything”. La Lune was performed alongside recent single, Milk & Honey last week for Lauren Laverne on 6 Music, listen back here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03xtct0 Production duties once more are courtesy of Rich Cooper (Mystery Jets, Cloves and The Temper Trap).
‘Milk & Honey’ is currently playlisted at Radio 1, Radio X and Amazing Radio and follows the success of last year’s ‘Bird’, which saw Billie sell-out her debut London show, enjoy shows at Radio 1s Future Festival and make her debut US appearance at this year’s SXSW. Having gained widespread acclaim for an emotive lyricism that belies her tender years, Billie Marten appeared on the BBC Sound of 2016 long list earlier this year.
Hailing from Ripon in North Yorkshire she has music in her blood, growing up listening to John Martyn, Laura Marling, David Bowie, Portishead and Loudon Wainwright, whom she saw in concert as a kid. At the age of eight, given a small, pink guitar and taught four chords by her dad, she wrote her first ‘proper’ song.
