DOUGLAS HART NEW SEVEN INCH SINGLE ‘X FILM PLUS ULTRA’ /‘PRE-PARADISE (MEMORIES OF THE FUTURE)’
RELEASED ON BLANK EDITIONS – 27TH MAY 2013
Blank Editions continue their Solo Series of seven inch releases with a new single from founding member of The Jesus and Mary Chain and award winning music video and film director Douglas Hart.
The new single, Hart’s debut solo release, features two original compositions entitled ‘X Film Plus Ultra’ and ‘Pre-Paradise (Memories Of The Future)’ and were co produced with Toby Kidd of Hatcham Social at Sleepwalker Studios in London.
A side, ‘X Film Plus Ultra’ is a piece of dirty glam rock from the soundtrack of the forthcoming film ‘Nicht Plus Ultra’ whilst flip side ‘Pre-Paradise (Memories Of The Future)’ contains field recordings recorded by Douglas as he travelled to film festivals around the world promoting his short ‘Long Distance Information’. The track includes sounds from the Kiev Opera house in the Ukraine to a crowded bar in Park City Utah, USA together with snippets of noise from short wave transistor radios in France, Slovakia and the UK.
As with the previous two releases in Blank Editions’ series of handmade and assembled seven inch vinyl singles, Douglas Hart and the daughters of the American Revolution comes in a hand numbered card sleeve (with original pencil rubbings making each one unique) and is issued with a printed tracing paper insert containing an original 8 mm film strip shot and owned by Douglas Hart.
Set up and established by artist and video director David Blanco and author and publisher Will Shutes, Blank Editions aims to release an output of lathe cut and vinyl records, compilations and publications documenting a small and thriving undercurrent. A component of Blank Editions, The Solo Series will be a batch of collectable seven inch records with handmade sleeves and inserts released throughout the next couple of years featuring solo offshoots from some of their favourite musicians and artists. The first release was ‘Ducks’ by Charles Boyer and was closely followed by the recent Joseph Coward single ‘Children’s Bones’
