10 years since ‘Give Blood’ Brakes are back from the wild frontiers, half men, half porcupines. They’re ready to surf over thunderstorms, ride down streaks of lightning, wade through the Atlantic and jump the English Channel to blast out their superior party rock, live and direct.
Former British Sea Power keyboard player Eamon Hamilton put Brakes together in Brighton in 2003 with the help of friends and collaborators Tom and Alex White (of Electric Soft Parade) and Marc Beatty (of The Tenderfoot. According to Hamilton’s account “the immortal words ‘let’s form a band’” were Brakes’ starting point.
After two albums for Rough Trade Records (2005’s ‘Give Blood’ and 2006’s ‘The Beatific Visions’) – both of which critically-acclaimed and a lot of touring, 2008 saw Brakes find a new home with FatCat and, in 2009, album releases in ‘Touchdown’ and ‘Rock Is Dodelijk’ (live album).
The Brighton 4-piece band will play at Together The People Festival and End Of The Road before three headline shows this autumn. Tickets are onsale now at http://gigst.rs/Brakes and for Glasgow www.gigsinscotland.com.
