CANAYA – SEALED WITHIN THE WALLS EP
Formed in 2010, featuring ex-members of Tangaroa, Executive Distraction Tasks, Hot Prophecy and Nerve Engine, Canaya’s sound draws from an uncompromising urge to play powerful heavy music, pulling metal firmly into the 21st Century.
Based in Leeds, a city that has produced the likes of Send More Paramedics, The Plight, Humanfly and Hawk Eyes, Canaya are another band to add to the ever-growing list of awesome, heavy bands from the area. Bringing Mastodon-esque riffs and some of the harshest vocals on offer, Canaya make soul-destroying brutality their business.
Debut EP ‘Alignment of Dying Planets’ released in 2010 lay down the initial foundations picking up positive coverage in Rock Sound and Metal Hammer. 3 years later ‘Sealed Within The Walls’ is the first in a series of releases for the band, pushing the intensity even further while drawing in progressive elements and taking inspiration from bands such as Botch, Unsane, Pantera, Anthrax and Mastodon.

Having shared the stage with the likes of Narrows, Keelhaul, Knut, Coliseum, Humanfly and Melt Banana, Canaya vocalist Simon Wright caught the attention of BBC Rock Show’s Daniel P Carter who quickly recruited him as frontman for his latest band Krokodil, who feature members of Sikth, Cry for Silence and Gallows
Ginger from The Wildhearts, also impressed, asked Simon to record guest-vocals on his recent ‘Mutation’ album.
On ‘Sealed Within The Walls’, Canaya themselves, bring in a guest-vocalist with Humanfly’s John Sutcliffe appearing on ‘Committed’ giving the world one of the nastiest duets you’ll hear all year from one of the most interesting heavy British bands of 2014.
