London three-piece, CHEAP MEAT, owe their formation to Coronation Street, but that’s a story for another time… The summer bonding that solidified and laid the blueprint for the band though, came as result of a shared love of punk-rock, 90’s wrestling and BBQ’s. It’s a blueprint is that’s evident in debut single, ‘Sweetness, Take Me Back’, from their forthcoming debut EP, ‘The Parts That Show’.
Cheap Meat live is where the smackdown truly gets laid. Support slots with My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero, to hanging out with British DIY kings Tellison, a Cheap Meat show is above all things fun. “We want to be the band that makes you want to be in a band not to mention a lesson in arts and crafts, with homemade ‘zines that the band write, print and fold themselves.”
“I spent most of my teenage years growing my hair out and trying to be a bit Paul Simonand a bit Elliott Smith, but I would say silly things between songs and kill the vibe… then I decided I wanted to be a stand up comedian and ended up doing Improv but I missed playing guitar. When Matt and I started playing songs together, I remembered that you’re supposed to have fun.” says Ross. Matt backs this up, acknowledging that“you don’t hear many drummers talk during a live show, but I guess my time spent as a radio DJ has left me with a motor mouth. I think it was important to us to interact on stage and for it to be natural, like you’re just hanging out with us”.
