LISTEN TO “TURNED ME TO STONE”
The Conquerors, a vibrant psych pop sextet from the heart of Kansas City, are excited to share their explosive new single “Turned Me To Stone” today via PopMatters. With the band’s full length debut due out August 26th on High Dive Records (Psychic Heat, Berwanger, Rooftop Vigilantes), picks up the pop fury with inescapable organs and a soul hook that’d make James Brown proud. The band’s retro psych sounds alive and well, blending good ol’ fashioned rock ‘n’ roll and soul’s glory days for a true barn burner. The Conquerors have a knack for creating psych pop with rowdy inclinations and even bigger hooks, “Turned Me To Stone” is both dreamy and wild.
PopMatters shared, “The Conquerors’ “Turned Me to Stone” is strictly vintage. It’s such a pitch-perfect recreation of Help!-era Beatles that it’s hard to believe it’s a new song. There’s the simple yet masterful pentatonic guitar solo, the three-vocal harmonies, the guttural yells which bring the song through transitions.”
Following a string of successful singles, the band’s new album, Wyld Time is radiant with retro psych pop and rock ’n’ roll fuzz. The Conquerors have become renowned throughout the Midwest for their live performances, earning them supporting slots with Thee Oh Sees, The Black Lips, Night Beats and more, bouncing between howling garage fury and sweet jittery pop bliss.
Led by Rory Cameron, The Conquerors are blurring the lines between retro and modern as they mold songwriting from the past with the present’s production and sonic layering. It’s all razor sharp and deceptively dangerous.

ABOUT THE CONQUERORS:
The Conquerors are the creative impetus of Rory Cameron, but that is not entirely accurate – they are all the collective product of a force larger and more oblique.
From dark, dank alleys filled with forgotten 45s and lost garage compilations, The Conquerors have emerged. They came, riding their motorcycles down the boulevards and backstreets of the blistering Kansas City landscape – on a long, long dig in search of that perfect Rock ‘n’ Roll. Vincent Lawhon, Jim Button, Jake Cardwell, Quentin Schmidt and Adam Wagner have joined Cameron on the great groove to nowhere alongside a revolving cast of stellar musical collaborators. “It’s all about the search, man …the trip for that one amazing song, over and over again” he says, his wild eyes swirling.
Lawhon takes a long drag, “As a group, we just really enjoy playing together … feeding off of each other”. He exhales. They could easily be mistaken for an exceptionally edgy Paisley Underground band that slipped through the cracks – shades of Altamont staining the edges. Employing the occasional 12- string guitar, razor edge percussion, clean riffs, and ravenous vocals, every engagement is white-hot alchemy. The energy is tense, transcendental, and psychedelically paranoid all at once – a magnet for live births and sketchy-looking biker types. To date, 9 children have been born at their shows. Occasionally violence will break out. “We can’t fucking stand yuppies, lefties, blandies, Nazis, or hippies. Especially fucking hippies”, front man Rory Cameron says. Dangerous to all –ments, -archy’s, and –ism’s of the world. Dangerous to The Way Things Are – The Powers That Be – Common Sense – Sell Outs and Cop Outs.
The Conquerors have played with such rock ‘n’ roll luminaries as Thee Oh Sees, the Black Lips, White Mystery and Night Beats, amongst others. The Conquerors have arrived and the grooves are rapidly spinning – rest assured, the needle will drop.
