Anyone who remembers those innocent little ‘lair, lair, yer bum’s on fire!’ taunts at school. Well Credit To The Nation have reinvented the luvable jest as “Lair, lair, career’s on fire!”
Just as ‘Teenage Sensation’ had us all whistling that tune here back at the office, this new release has another annoyingly great contagious hook.
Matty and the boys have got in a soulful songstress, in the form of
Elli Luha, to accompany the bans; “I’m on fire!” she sings adding an element of the gospel to the chorus this time.
With both it’s wonderful brass and string arrangements, plus the overall full on bouncy bass line sound, ‘Lair Lair’ makes for a somewhat downright gorgeous dance record,
There are three other tracks on the EP – another version of ‘Liar Lair’ which could be said is rather weak in comparison, a bit like an Egyptian sand dance.
Forget your Supergrass, Marion, Blur and that ilk, here’s Brit Pop at it’s best, make no mistake. Ask the record retailer to play it for you in the shop and be prepared to join the queue first, there will be a rush on. 8/10
