Having made a flying start to 2016 following the news that their new track ‘The Stranger’ was selected as Radio 1’s Rockest Record, another exciting development from the CREEPER camp now comes with the news that their forthcoming show at The Barfly sold-out in less than 24 hours. As a result, the show has been upgraded to The Underworld – a venue with more than double the capacity – which will be their biggest headline gig to date.
Remaining tickets are now on sale from http://www.livenation.co.uk/artist/creeper-tickets, priced at £7 in advance.
The rise of Southampton goth-punks CREEPER continues with the February 19th release of the new EP ‘The Stranger’. Their second release for Roadrunner Records UK following the sold-out EP‘The Callous Heart’, the first taste of ‘The Stranger’ comes with the unveiling of the new track ‘Black Mass’.
Produced by Neil Kennedy at The Ranch, ‘Black Mass’ captures CREEPER’s inherent sense of energy while also evoking the dramatic spirits of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.
“The lyrics are written from the perspective of the character of The Stranger, the heartbroken monster who is the EP’s namesake,” says vocalist Will Gould. “They’re partly inspired by recounts of sleep paralysis, where sufferers describe seeing a ‘black matter’ or ‘black mass’ haunting them in their rooms at night, while they lie paralysed in bed.”
‘The Stranger’ EP immediately establishes a theatrical air of foreboding with the mood-setting opener ‘The Secret Society’ before the band’s love of The Misfits, Alkaline Trio and The Damned is very much in evidence throughout the pop-punk attack of ‘Valentine’. The EP’s closing two tracks really highlight the band’s growing maturity and versatility: ‘Misery’ Is stripped back to a soul-baring vocal/guitar duet before exploding into its climactic finale, and the mid-section of ‘Astral Projection’ focuses on Gould’s impassioned delivery before a final race to the finish line.
‘The Stranger’ EP will be available on 12” vinyl and digital download formats, and can now be pre-ordered from iTunes (http://po.st/StrangeriTunes) as a special package from the Roadrunner Records (http://po.st/CreeperRRStore) store which also features an exclusive new t-shirt design.
Having recently added guitarist Oliver Burdett and keyboardist Hannah Greenwood to the CREEPER ranks, the band’s new line-up will debut at the Birmingham O2 Institute on February 1st where CREEPER play as guests to Neck Deep. Their first headline tour as a sextet commences later that month:
