“Collide” draws you into its inner sanctum and keeps you spellbound, firmly holding you in place without you ever realizing it.” – Consequence of Sound
Toronto, ON – July 16, 2013 – Dine Alone Records is proud to announce the release of Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd’s debut solo album In Deep Owl. Released under the initials of Shepherd’s full name Hunter Benedict Shepherd (HBS), the album will be available digitally and on vinyl in Canada on August 27, 2013. Ben Shepherd has just premiered the second track, “Collide,” off of his upcoming album. To listen to the song on Consequence of Sound click HERE and below. A distant track with a commanding bass riff that grounds the listeners into Shepherd’s sympathetic moaning lyrics, “Collide” features a hauntingly deep croon that rumbles over the twang treble of a mandolin.
Ben previously premiered the first song off the album, “Baron Robber,” on SPIN, who said “HBS’ new song feels down and dirty, minimally produced and ready to rock.” The track is currently featured on Dine Alone’s Summer Sampler. To check it out visit: http://www.dinealonerecords.com/sampler
In Deep Owl is a culmination of four years of writing and was recorded at Gerry Amandes studio in an industrial neighborhood of Seattle that was home to drug dealers, poets, and hookers. The artistic culture surrounding the studio leant a head in the overall tone and musical themes of the album, keeping the main bohemian vibe and beat nickery alive. The intimate project features the harrowing vocals and acoustic guitar of Ben Shepherd himself plus the aggressive attitude and musical direction of two iconic drummers, Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) and Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam).
