Young Fathers, Mercury Prize winners, touring with Massive Attack, and undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to have emerged in recent years will bring a notoriously fierce live performance to the Farmfest main stage. By contrast GoGo Penguin are carving out a niche in glorious acoustic reinterpretations of electronic music. New album ‘Man-made Object’ is set for release on Blue Note, making them one of only a handful of Brits to have released on the prestigious label.
On another plane of the jazz spectrum sit legendary New Orleans outfit The Hot 8 Brass Band who have been blowing for over 20 years. They are among the very best exponents of big brass jazz, blending classic covers with new and funk-fuelled original tunes, and are one massive hoot!
The Farmfest line-ups always have a habit of producing pleasant surprises but this year there is one more obvious than most in the form of 90s big beat protagonists Bentley Rhythm Ace who had a string of hits before parting ways at the height of their fame. This is one act who will have plenty of ravers in the 30+ age range beaming with excitement.
Joining the big guns on the very cosmopolitan line-up are Dutch trio My Baby, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Shilpa Ray and French duo Holy Two, with further home-grown talent coming in the form of widely and critically acclaimed Haiku Salut, Rachael Dadd and Plastic Mermaids.
Heading up the live electronic offering will be Lone whose track Airglow Fires on legendary Belgium label R&S Records won Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards Track of the Year 2014.
And speaking of which, the man himself Gilles Peterson will be heading down to Somerset to grace the festival’s unique combine harvester DJ booth! He will be joined by his favourite DJ, Belgium’s Lefto (‘Your favourite DJ’s favourite DJ’ – Fact Mag), Bristol heavyweight hero Kowton showcasing his soon to be released longplayer, and Manchester’s Hoya:Hoya resident Jon K. The Late Night Tales DJs will be back to expertly fill the gaps between acts on the main stage, and party crews Shapes, The Civilisation of the Rough and Crucial & Fresh all return for 2016 and are set to announce stage line-ups soon.
Away from the music, the overwhelming success of the new and improved arts offering around the festival in 2015 is set to be even greater for 2016 and will see the Comedy and Spoken Word Tent grow, more theatre, art workshops and activities for grown-ups to compliment the varied and hugely popular programme already available for children, plus many more immersive oddities and beautiful creations.
More acts and DJs will be announced over the coming months ahead of the festival at the end of July.
