Self-Titled Debut Album Out Now on Blackheart Records
Fea have announced the first series of US live dates for 2017. The tour kicks off January 18h in San Antonio, TX and runs through February 18th in Dallas with more dates to be announced. Full dates below. Their song “Tragedias” was just named one of NPR’s Top 100 Songs of 2016. NPR also focused on Fea in an episode of Alt.Latino discussing their debut album and what it means to be a Latina punk in the US. Listen to it here.
Fea is the continued ferocity of Girl in a Coma’s Phanie Diaz and Jenn Alva, joined by lead vocalist Letty Martinez and guitarist Aaron Magana. Their melodic riot grrrl Chicana punk has been championed by other artists including Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, Alice Bag, and Babes in Toyland’s Lori Barbero who all produced tracks on Fea’s debut album out now on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records. The group also toured with Against Me! in 2016.
Leading up to the elections, Fea released the video for “Feminazi” which is a statement on the current climate of politics, women’s rights, and bigotry. They debuted it just in time for Donald Trump’s visit to their hometown of San Antonio. The song is a celebratory punk anthem that proudly subverts its title with an infectious chant of “I’m a feminist!” in English, Spanish, German, French, and Japanese. Watch the video here.
Fea came together in San Antonio, Texas. Inspired by riot grrrl, they set out to keep pushing its message forward and put their own Chicana twist on it. Their fierce brand of punk marries humor with abandon, English with Spanish, and is unafraid to take on any sacred cow. Existing at the intersection of women’s, immigrants’, and queer people’s struggles, the band draws lines that connect us and seek to empower and inspire dissidence. Those that would oppress us are in Fea’s crosshairs and resistance has never sounded this infectious!
