fiN are southwest London schoolmates, Jonny Garner, Simon Harding, Kerry Lambert and Luke Joyce. “There are no rules,” says singer Luke Joyce, “throw away the rulebook. You want to aim as high as you can, and that’s what we’re gonna do. If you aim at ‘impossible’ you’re always going to end up better than if you just aim for somewhere logical.”
fiN recently released their debut single ’The Artisan’ on their own record label last month and sees the Wandsworth-based indie rock four piece delivering a moody, evocative and almost entirely instrumental piece, an intriguing introduction to the gritty, experimental guitar-driven sound they’ve been cultivating at live shows around the country over the past year or so. The single became XFM single of the week & managed to gain front-page space on youtube.com, raking up over 45,000 views, which is no small feat for a DIY band.
Mixed by Muse, Two Door Cinema Club and Foo Fighters impresario Adrian Bushby, after the band sent a track to him on a whim, they set the mark as “the heaviest indie band around.” The band are not just treading fresh paths with the sound either. In a unique move, fiN are releasing the record as a series of 6x 7” singles which will make up the 12 track album. Fans will simply collect the vinyl’s at gigs or from the bands website, receiving a download code which allows them access to the MP3s, videos, making of the videos and extra footage for every song.
It’s a creative way to purchase a cool, diverse album from a band that represents the next generation of indie, a bona fide evolution that finally sees British guitar indie-rock stop dragging its knuckles and start punching at the stars.
