In 2011 Derek W Dick, better known as Fish, will rack up 30 years as a singer since joining Marillion in Aylesbury in 1981. His powerful, instantly identifiable Scottish presence on and off stage was a major factor in the band’s worldwide success until his departure in 1988, wherein he began a long and critically acclaimed solo career.
This summer will see the writing and recording of his next studio album, A Feast of Consequences, and this will coincide with dates across the UK and Europe that will see a newly energised and dynamic Fish hit stages after recovering from an operation on his vocal chords in 2009.
He returned to live performances last year with acoustic shows featuring his long term friends and musicians Frank Usher on guitar and Foss Paterson on keyboards, playing stripped down acoustic versions of songs from throughout his career in preparation for the writing sessions for his new studio album.
Now after completing around 100 shows in this format, originally intended as a reintroduction to live work, Fish has captured the imagination of his fans and circumnavigated Europe with the show, resulting in rave reviews for this writer, consummate performer, dramatist, comedian, and all round entertainer.
Backed by Frank and Foss, who have both played in John Martyn’s celebrated line ups, deconstructed songs from the Marillion era sit alongside much-loved solo work in a set that embraces a recording career spanning 13 studio albums. This next mammoth series of dates will take us through to the end of another incredible year for Fish, and should not be missed. More details can be found on his web site http://www.fish-thecompany.com and on his Facebook page Fish (Musician/Band) where you can find updates and posts on his activities.
