January 13, 2016 (Nashville, TN) — Nashville-based rock band The Gills has been added to SXSW 2016. Announced yesterday in the latest wave of official artists, The Gills will perform at SXSW ahead of its new self-titled LP, set for release on April 1, 2016.
The Gills LP is the band’s second full-length release, following 2009’s Forget What You See… and 2012’s Motor Running EP. “We chose to make this project our self-titled release because this album represents each guys’ heart and soul, not just mine,” reflects the band’s founder Jesse Wheeler.
Inspiration for The Gills traces back to Jesse Wheeler’s teenage battle with leukemia. Out of that difficult time came a desire for Jesse (Vocals/Guitar) to pursue his passion of playing music. After forming in Pensacola, FL, with Matt (Drums) and Andy Prince (Bass), the band relocated to Nashville, TN and added Justin Locke (Guitar) to the lineup.
The band’s recent tour history includes performances alongside Manchester Orchestra, The Front Bottoms, Pujol, and Plain White T’s. The Gills are also champions of the first ever Music City Big Break, an invite-only competition featuring some of Nashville’s most promising talent.
