Gold Chain EP Released today on B3SCI Records
“(…) a voodoo-like cauldron of hearty guitars, reverb echoing farther than Alice down the rabbithole, and synth ripples as luxurious as A$AP Rocky’s den of iniquity” – SPIN
“It’s intriguing stuff, spacious and crisp and hard-hitting yet heady and zonked and liable to float away at any moment” – Stereogum
“”With a mix of ribcage rattling sub-bass and hypnotic tremolo guitars, childhood friends Josh Smith and Josh Freed have created a track which sounds like the offspring of Kendrick Lamar and Bauuer” – The Line Of Best Fit

A first taster appeared in December with the EP title track, which had them featured as The Guardian’s ‘New Band Of The Week’, where their music was described as “a slow, stoned mix of synthed-up funk, crisp boom-bap and dark baselines”. Widespread anticipation of the release has also seen further support from the likes of NPR, Noisey, DUMMY, DIY and more.
Gosh Pith are long-lost childhood friends Josh Smith (vocals, guitar, electronics, production) and Josh Freed (beats, electronics, production) who reconnected in 2014 and started making music together. Recording in disused city spaces and mixing in the backseats of cars, they released the Window EP in mid-2015 to excited critical attention.
In an extension of that DIY recording ethos, Gold Chain was crafted in Detroit’s second-oldest church, which after years of being left abandoned was re-purposed as a creative hub for local musicians. Across four tracks the EP takes their hybrid sound to new heights – the booming trap bass, swooning guitars, alternately feverish and plaintive 5am vocals constituting an exciting new distillation of hip hop, pop, stoner rock, dub and the Detroit trap of their hometown, while never sounding quite like any of them.
Live Gosh Pith have shared the stage as support for the likes of Kero Kero Bonito, Vic Mensa, Jr Jr, Odesza, Griz, Shigeto and more. You can catch them on tour now across the US on the below dates.
