“The angst-ridden grunge of Nirvana, while flecks of Pavement ensure a distinctly nostalgic flavour to these guitar heroes” – NME
“’Teenage Movie Soundtrack’ is the perfect riposte to all the navel-gazing sad boy stuff the others specialize in. Dive in and get stoked on it. ” – Rock Sound
“Set in high school, with its corrosive mixture of The Cure and Mudhoney conjuring up all manner of adolescent fury” – Clash
South Carolinian grungers Heyrocco have released the fly-on-the-wall-style video for their brand new single ‘Loser Denial’. In true slacker-pop fashion the video kicks off with a false-start rehearsal, and captures footage of the band in and around their native South Carolina, generally misbehaving whilst dressed up to the nines.
In fact no-one rocks a string of pearls or a paisley polo quite like lead singer, Nathan Jake Merli, one of the most beautiful indie-rockers on the planet.
‘Loser Denial’ is a furor of mucky guitars, with Nathan spitting angst-ridden lyrics dripping with venom, claiming that you’re all in fact ”in Loser Denial”. The slow burning track builds up and up, before bursting fully into life with a frantic outro, New York Dolls-style.
The track is taken from their debut album ‘Teenage Movie Soundtrack’, which is a perfect marriage of grungy angst and bubblegum pop. Already being compared to the likes of Nirvana, Pavement, The Cure and Mudhoney, the album is packed to the rafters with gargantuan choruses, sludgy guitar hooks, and boasts stellar made-for-radio melodies.
Nathan (vocals & guitar), Chris Cool (bass) and Tanner ‘Taco’ Cooper (drums) first plugged-in the amps in their parents’ garages five years ago and were soon touring across the United States in their beaten up old van. After their debut UK show, a 1,400 sell-out for Club NME @ KOKO, the band returned in April with a hugely successful 12-date tour in support to The Xcerts and a packed out headline show at the Sebright Arms.
Building on the 3-piece’s ever-increasing buzz, ‘Teenage Movie Soundtrack’ is set to propel Heyroccothrough the roof and beyond. Their brand of 90’s-inspired ‘Disney grunge’ is connecting with a whole new generation of fans.
“Cue the light wash denim jeans and tattoo chokers because Heyrocco launch us right into 90’s teenage movie nostalgia. Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” NYLON
