HOLY is the project of Swedish musician Hannes Ferm, originally from Umeå in the north of Sweden but currently based in the capital of Stockholm. HOLY made his debut in the fall of 2014 with the debut EP Silver of Your Heart which quickly received praise internationally from the likes of Stereogum, and the EP was soon followed by the debut album Stabs in March 2015.
A self-recorded album in the middle ground between ‘60s pop and current day garage rock, Stabs was nominated to several awards in Sweden as well as praised by international press and musicians such as Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dennis Lyxzén of Refused. Stabs was followed by live dates around Scandinavia and the EU, with a UK headline run following an appearance at Liverpool Psych Fest as well as support slots to some of Sweden’s biggest rock bands as well as Thee Oh Sees and Mikal Cronin.
Since early 2016 Hannes Ferm has been holed up in Studio Cobra in Stockholm, recording what is set to become his long-awaited second LP. Moving far beyond the confines of garage rock, his new recordings showcase a more expansive sound, bringing to mind the likes of The Flaming Lips and classic acts such as David Bowie and Todd Rundgren.
“premonition / ◯ / it shines through” is a first taste of these sessions, with the full LP arriving Q1 next year, and it arrives ahead of a UK headline run in late September with shows in London, Manchester and Birmingham.
