The debut album from I Am Giant ‘The Horrifying Truth’ is due for release 8th October. This foursome are hugely popular in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia and are heading our way with a UK tour this September. The band are Ed Martin as the very talented vocalist, Paul Matthewson Bass, Shelton Woolright on Drums, and Andrew Kerr on Guitar and formed back in 2008. They have been kept busy having spent the best part of the last several months on the far side of the world from their hometown of London playing alongside Slash in his Australian tour as well as opening for Stone Temple Pilots in Singapore. Along the way they also managed to squeeze in a performance or two on the Big Day Out in Sydney and Auckland. Oh and did I mention they had a couple of number 1 hits in New Zealand too? (But you all knew this already from the news article published on WithGuitars on 29thAugust right?)
So with all that hype the debut should be something special and it doesn’t disappoint. The intelligent lyrics are delivered with such heartfelt emotion which skilfully and subtly directs your mood in the direction the band want you to go. The harmonies are beautifully melodic for their slower more poetic pieces yet can lift you easily on the more up-beat songs. This is a very cleverly produced album which flows and ebbs with effortless ease and grace. Arguable the best song on the album (well my favourite anyway) is the edgy ‘City Limits’ with its gritty urban feel of a cityscape combined with the urgency and need to escape.
The band will be appearing live in September at Birmingham(12th), London (13th), Lymington (14th),Peterborough (15th), Leicester (16th), Doncaster (17th),Guildford (19th), Southampton (20th), Brighton (21st),then in October at Reading (11th), Manchester (12th),Glasgow (15th), Nottingham (16th), Sheffield (17th),Portsmouth (18th), and Kingston (19th). 8/10
