Tide Break – Out Now

NEW YORK, NY June 16, 2017- Aaron Markland releases his sophomore solo album today. Tide Break is a collection of laid-back melodic jams recorded in Albuquerque, NM, where Markland (a born-and-bred San Diegan) works as a firefighter. The indelible influence of Southern California is readily apparent in the roots reggae twists and the hints of Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Ben Harper.

Markland is still intrinsically tied to San Diego, where his wife, and muse for many of the cuts on Tide Break, still lives. In fact, the couple got married just this week!

Befitting his understated, relaxed demeanor, Aaron has chosen to release Tide Break with little traditional fanfare; choosing to instead focus his attentions on his new bride, fighting fires, and preparing for a 4-show homestand in San Diego next week.

Listeners can look forward to arrangements that break, crash and roll with the dynamism of the Pacific tide, and lyrics that speak to both lazy summer days and turbulent afternoon thunderstorms.

“Often a callback to a time when Southern California and summer days, crashing waves and nights on the beach were at the forefront of the music scene, Aaron’s style updates that feeling in a modern but still inviting and nostalgic way.” John Wall, Producer

About Aaron Markland:

Blond-haired, blue-eyed Beach Rock Reggae artist Aaron Markland was born and raised in Ocean Beach, California. While attending Point Loma High School (as did Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald of the band Slightly Stoopid), he formed a hardcore punk band called Soylent Green with his older brother Justin Markland (Bass) and a few other close friends. After High School, Aaron enlisted in the USAF Special Forces Pararescue. It was during his military service that he began absorbing the music of Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. After being honorably discharged, Aaron seized the opportunity and recorded his debut solo album entitled “Rewind” at Treefort Studios in Los Angeles, CA,  produced by Chris Julian (Billy Idol, Queen Latifah) and Robert Vaughn (CBS, Sony). Several songs from that album were featured in Noah Taffolla’s acclaimed “Wonderland” documentary series of Ocean Beach. Having grown up on the beaches of San Diego, Aaron was constantly surrounded by the sounds of Bob Marley, Sublime, and Slightly Stoopid. With nostalgia at heart, he decided to return to his SoCal Reggae roots, and in 2015 he began recording his sophomore solo album at the Wall of Sound Studio in Albuquerque, NM. Aaron recruited a handful of good friends and musicians from New Mexico and California to join him on the project. In 2017, Aaron finished his Beach Rock Reggae album entitled “Tide Break” produced by the award-winning producer John Wall. The album has already been nominated for 3 categories in the New Mexico Music Awards including Best Pop Album (Tide Break), Best Reggae Song (Tide Break), and Best Modern Rock Song (Burn It Out). Aaron continues to tour in support of his music.
