(Brooklyn, New York) TAMMY – the indie “sex-folk” duo comprised of Brooke Backman and Aaron Mendelsohn, have just shared their LP titled This, which features critically-acclaimed singles, “Hated It (With You)”, “Away For The Weekend” and “Doing Something Right”. The group channels an intoxicatingly vintage vibe that prompted notable site Consequence of Sound to declare it as “music for the bedroom”. This is an unfogettable collective of spell-bounding harmonies and tongue-in-cheek lyrics about the spoils of love.
“TAMMY emerged from the rock opera That which never got made to bring you This. This collection of songs brings together the two sides of TAMMY – the satirical lover and the woman of longing. Since ‘the satirical lover and the woman of longing’ was kind of a mouthful, we decided to call it This. Hope you enjoy”, proclaims TAMMY of their record.
2016 has been an exciting year for TAMMY. “Hated It (With You)”, the lead single off This exclusively premiered with Consequence of Sound who raved “Vocalist Brooke’s smoky voice plays off her bandmate Aaron’s arpeggiated chords to form a seductive one-two punch that plenty of listeners will be powerless to resist.” Their follow-up single titled “Away For The Weekend” exclusively premiered with Pancakes & Whiskey who wrote, “This gorgeous song premiere by TAMMY immediately entrances us with hushed guitar and the line –‘Traveled on horseback to get, under your skin.’ That line, while striking, is just the beginning of a four-minute adventure of love, loss and the need to get away from it all. The lyrics that are sung beautifully, wash over us like a warm blanket on a stormy night while the soothing guitar and minimal percussion is like a big inviting mug of Hot Toddy.” Their latest single, “Doing Something Right” exclusively premiered on Audio Femme to high praise.
Members Aaron and Brooke, who met for the first time at a bar called Iona, possess the kind of undeniable chemistry that brings to mind some of the most beloved American folk duos, like Simon & Garfunkel and Dylan and Baez. Aaron’s acoustic riffs provide the perfect backdrop for Brooke’s sweet yet sultry, honey-soaked vocals, giving TAMMY its truly original sound.
Influenced by everyone from Burt Bacharach to Nirvana, both Aaron and Brooke began developing their musicality at the age of four. Now, as TAMMY, they draw inspiration from their experiences as New Yorkers. And as Brooke puts it, “We can’t wait to keep singing and writing songs about love, hate and making out.”
