PLUS LATEST SINGLE ‘NOTHING BUT LOVE’ PREMIERED, FEBRUARY 5th, ON THE CHRIS EVANS BREAKFAST SHOW, BBC RADIO 2
LISTEN TO ‘NOTHING BUT LOVE’ HERE
One of the UK’s most creatively restless and loved artists, James, are returning with two very intimate shows in Manchester and London this month, ahead of their full UK tour in May.
Performing tracks from their forthcoming album plus their classic hits, the band are set to play Manchester Academy 2 on Wednesday 17th February and London Scala on Thursday 18th February.
Jim Glennie said, “We finally get to play the Manchester Academy 2 or MDH (Main Debating Hall) as it used to be known. This venue played such a huge part in my musical education. Seeing Human League, Pere Ubu, Gang Of Four, The Fall and so many more in such a cool, little venue. We’ve never played The Scala either. It also seems to have a great history and a great reputation. Debuting the new album will be scary but should be fun.”
The album preview dates come a month before the release of Girl At The End Of The World, out on BMG Recordings on 18th March.
The second single taken from the record, Nothing But Love, premiered this morning (Friday February 5th) on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, BBC Radio 2. This sensational new track is also now available as an instant grat on iTunes and for preorders made via the band’s webstore on wearejames.com
Nothing But Love is a rarity in the James canon – an unadorned love song featuring the refrain ‘nothing but love gives the world some meaning’. ‘Love songs tend to tread such a well-worn path that I avoid them unless I have something new to say or I’m so blinded by emotion I can’t help myself’. Says singer and lyricist Tim Booth ‘ It’s about love’s euphoria and ecstasy – that love-bomb that goes off and changes everything. But love is a high-stakes game, as something you love can also be lost.’
Like much of Girl At The End Of The World, the song was cut live in RAK Studio and contains a touch of ‘Enoxification’ from the band’s former mentor Brian Eno, who has previously produced five James albums.
Known for their unique and diverse style over their 13 studio albums, James are both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, having sold over 12 million albums worldwide. The band originally signed to the iconic Factory Records in 1982, and have since gone onto produce a string of massive hit singles, including: Sit Down, Come Home, She’s A Star and Born of Frustration. Now, 32 years on they have come up with a record that the band consider their best ever.
Girl At The End Of The World sees the band team again with producer Max Dingel (The Killers, Muse, White Lies). The new album is both anthemic and euphoric, with it’s simmering electronica continuing James’ long connection to the dance floor. The band’s trademark songwriting and Tim Booth’s distinctive vocal & evocative lyrics prove once again to be amongst Britain’s finest.
The Girl At The End Of The World Tour spans the UK, including a giant hometown show at Manchester Arena and a 3-date takeover of London at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, O2 Forum Kentish Town and O2 Brixton Academy.
Joining James on tour will be Jack Savoretti, one of the UK’s standout male singer songwriters. Jack’s 2015 progression was nothing short of staggering; with sales of his acclaimed album ‘Written In Scars’ over 100,000 copies and two sold out UK tours under his belt plus another on the way, he will be back on the road again with James on four dates along with his stellar live band. Jack’s new single ‘Catapult’ is out now.www.jacksavoretti.com
