Thousands Attend Lucas Oil Off Road Racing’s Action-Packed 2017 Season Opener in Chandler, AZ
This past weekend, thousands of families and race fans beat the heat and packed the grandstands at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ, for an adrenaline-filled weekend of racing at General Tire Duel In The Desert presented by Optima Batteries.
The first event of the 2017 season brought plenty of excitement and drama starting with Round 1 on Saturday, when 19-year-old, Pro-2 rookie Jerett Brooks beat out a slew of seasoned drivers like Jeremy McGrath, Rob MacCachren, Brian Deegan, to capture the win in the Pro 2 Unlimited Class. MacCachren placed second with McGrath coming in third.
In the Pro 4 Unlimited, Bryce Menzies took the win, beating out veteran rivals Carl Renezeder and Rob MacCachren and others. Renezeder finished second in the first race of what he has announced will be the final season of his career, and rounding out the podium was Kyle LeDuc.
The Pro Lite Unlimited race saw Brock Heger picking up the big win, with Jerett Brooks finishing second and third going to Ryan Beat.
In the open wheel ranks (Pro Buggy Unlimited), it was Eliott Watson with the first place win. Darren Hardesty Jr and Kyle Aarup claimed 2nd and third, respectively.
Racing fans returned to the Arizona desert in full force on Sunday for Round 2 of the 2017 championship.
In the Pro 2 Unlimited race, Rob MacCachren led the way to first place ahead of Bryce Menzies who grabbed second, with RJ Anderson rounding out the podium in third.
In the four wheel drive ranks (Pro 4 Unlimited) soon-to-retire Carl Renezeder won Round 2 for the second straight year, ahead of Menzies in 2nd and MacCachren in 3rd.
Brock Heger grabbed the win in round 2, and swept the weekend in the Pro Lite Unlimited class, ahead of 2nd place finisher and class rookie Hailie Deegan, and third place finisher Jerett Brooks.
In Pro Buggy Unlimited Round 2, Round 1 winner Eliott Watson once again grabbed the win, ahead of Hardesty Jr. (2nd) and Bud Ward (3rd).
With that, the opening weekend of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing competition came to a close. Attention now turns to LOORRS next event, which will take drivers and teams south of the border, to the lovely seaside city of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. The Estero Beach Resort will host Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2017 championship, with drivers facing one of the fastest, most challenging, and most popular tracks on the circuit.
