Jim James’ New Solo Album, Is Out Today
James Kicks Off U.S. Headline Tour November 15
Eternally Even (ATO/Capitol Records), the new solo album from My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, is now available HERE. James performed the album’s first single, “Here In Spirit,” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last night. View his performance HERE. James wrote the track – hailed as “a rallying cry” by Consequence of Sound – the day after the shootings at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL.
James will support Eternally Even with a U.S. headline tour that kicks off with two nights at Royale in Boston (November 15 and 16). The run will include shows at Terminal 5 in New York City (November 20), the Palace Theater in Louisville, KY (November 25) and the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles (December 9). Twin Limb will open on all dates. Tickets are available HERE. See below for itinerary.
Rapper/activist Wyclef Jean interviewed James for a MAGNET cover story. The issue will be on newsstands next week. MAGNET observed, “You can look forward with confidence to the future. With Eternally Even, the new solo album from Jim James, our country is prouder and stronger and better.” NPR – which streamed Eternally Even in its entirety as part of its “First Listen” series – praised the album’s “arresting, soulful…transcendent tunes.” Slant Magazine awarded it four stars and noted, “The quiet vibes of protest and experimental song design make for James’s most cohesive set to date.” Stereogum praised its “raw, exquisitely textured glory” and the Louisville Courier-Journal said, “‘Eternally Even’ is a soulful winner.”
Rolling Stone called the track “Same Old Lie” “hypnotic” and SPIN observed, “the song radiates a psychedelic sound resonant of the late ’60s.” View the official video for “Same Old Lie”.
James recorded Eternally Even at his home in Louisville and during an extended stay in Los Angeles, co-producing the album with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes). It follows James’ 2013 debut solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, and My Morning Jacket’s GRAMMY®-nominated The Waterfall (2015). Eternally Even is the next step in a creative journey that has included seven acclaimed albums with My Morning Jacket and work with the all-star Monsters of Folk, the Woody Guthrie tribute album New Multitudes, and the recastings of newly-unearthed Bob Dylan lyrics on Lost on the River. Named by Rolling Stone as “one of rock’s most powerful singers and one of its most fearless architects,” James has recently produced albums by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Basia Bulat and Ray La Montagne’s latest album, Ouroboros.
