Every now and then comes along a song which hits with an impact that makes you sit up and listen.

From a 70s influenced stripped-back conception to an uplifting chorus with messages of hope, Josh Wheatley’s “Shiver” does just this.

It is a song written from a very personal place. To prove a point and is a striking follow up from this singer-songwriter who caused a stir with his debut single ‘Runaway’ earlier in the year which garnered acclaim from the likes of Clash, Gigslutz, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Record Of The Day, Music Week and many more.

Heavily influenced by contemporary songwriters like Rhodes and Haim, Josh sought a way to combine his songwriting style with something new. ‘Shiver’ explodes from a stripped back Ed Sheeran-esque beginning with a driving indie guitar rhythm and a repeating vocal refrain that becomes more and more epic as the track builds and keeps on giving new ways to be hooked and moved.

The single was produced by Al Groves (Bring Me The Horizon, Paris Youth Foundation, Cast) at the internationally renowned studio The Motor Museum, which has made albums such as The 1975’s brilliant “The 1975”, Oasis’ “Definitely Maybe” to Jake Bugg’s debut.

It is such an accomplished song and production for one so young with intimacy and an intriguing production yet baring all the hallmarks of great indie legends that should bring more and more deserved attention to this Nottingham 21 year old.

The song is Josh’s way of saying “Here I am. I’ve found myself.” and judging by the quality it won’t be long before more and more join his already buzzing cult of fans.

‘Shiver’ is out to buy on June 23rd.
