Joy Crookes today returns with momentous new single ‘Power’, a luxurious, defiantly sophisticated track with an important, far-reaching lyrical edge.
“Power is a song about the misuse of power,” explains the prodigious South London talent. “I felt like it was important to speak on this issue especially considering our current social climate. This song is dedicated to those who feel powerless.”
Following ‘Bad Feeling’, one of the year’s most distinctive new tracks, ‘Power’ is the meaningful and formidable second track to be taken from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming debut EP, ‘Influence’, due for release on July 21st.
Co-written by Joy and Audra Mae and produced by Alex Hope (Troye Sivan, Tove Lo, Jack Antonoff), the track sees Joy continue her assured ascent to the upper echelons of 2017’s new stars, and comes after a packed show at London’s Bushstock festival and an outstanding performance at Live Nation’s hyped The Source night earlier this month.
Scoring plaudits from The Fader, The Line Of Best Fit, NOTION, CLASH, Wonderland, The 405 and more, Joy also gained a fan in Brooklyn Beckham, who shared ‘Bad Feeling’ on Instagram to much esteem. This comes in addition to top slots on Spotify and Apple Music’s influential new music playlists.
Joy’s bold visual aesthetic, powerful lyrics and sophisticated modern pop sound are proof of this striking new talent’s deep and longstanding obsession with music. It’s an obsession rooted in incredibly eclectic music; some of her favourite artists including Massive Attack, Black Uhuru, Billie Holiday and Young Marble Giants.
Joy Crookes has announced the ‘Influence’ EP launch and headline show at Corsica Studios on July 26th with Live Nation. Tickets on sale now here: http://media.livenation.co.uk/artists/joy-crookes
“My love for music is so unconditional that it’s almost like a family member to me,” says the 18-year-old South Londoner, to which her exceptional song-craft and intrinsic understanding or melody and rhythm testify.
