Kim Deal – Biker Gone Out Now

Kim Deal returns with the fifth release in her solo series of 7″ singles ‘Biker Gone’.

This time out Kim has been recording with ‘Pod’ era Breeders drummer Britt Walford as well as twin sister Kelley Deal, culminating in one of the best outings yet for this series.

One reason for not putting out a solo album is that Kim – always visionary and true as an artist – has felt these songs should be recorded ad hoc with various other musicians, a method that has resulted in an eclectic sound.

Last single ‘The Root’ was a lo-fi riff laden blast that was actually danceable, something that offset it against tracks like the achingly beautiful ‘Are You Mine’ and here on ‘Biker Gone’ Kim delivers the most Breeders alike song yet.

Dirty, fuzzed up guitars dominate the track (not surprisingly it was recorded by Steve Albini) and Kelley’s luscious harmonies add to the rich textures.

Flip side song – I’m not calling it a B side – is ‘Beautiful Moon’ a country tinged ballad that showcases Kim vocals.

A definite highlight of an exquisite series and one that should fill every Breeders fan full of glee in anticipation for those new tracks just recorded with Mr Albini in Chicago.
