NEW SINGLE – ‘AMY TOLD ME’ (featuring LO ROXX)
RELEASED – 14TH APRIL 2017
LONDON LIVE DATE – 24TH APRIL 2017
North London based rapper, King Kofi is set to release a new single on the 14th of April 2017.
‘Amy Told Me’ is the follow up to last year’s ‘Just A Dude In Need Of A Chance’ release and will be digitally available at all the major outlets. Recorded with Birmingham producer Urban Monk, best known for his work with Wiley, Plan B and Lily Allen, the new track features the vocal talents of singer-songwriter Lo Roxx.
The two began collaborating on the song when Kofi met Lo Roxx while on a course at the Amy Winehouse Foundation during the spring of 2016. Although it’s not a tribute to the late singer, King Kofi describes the track as a “personal reflection while using her legacy as a reference to the issues I was facing at the time.” The single is accompanied by a video which was directed by the rapper in and around Camden, aiming to capture the diverse range of people, music and culture in an area of London that is forever synonymous with Winehouse.
Although just twenty-one years of age, Kofi can at times pack a lifetime of pain and anguish into his lyrics and gives the listener a direct insight into what it means to be a young adolescent living in the UK right now. His influences cover a wide range of genres; it wouldn’t be uncommon when glazing over his discography to come across sounds which stem from that of electronica, indie music and UK grime. Yet, the London born rapper remains grounded in the aesthetic of hip-hop somehow keeping his musical tastes apparent, but flowing together nicely.
Mentored by the producer/songwriter Semothy Jones who has worked with Wretch-32, Professor Green, Lady Sovereign, Little Boots and Boy Better Know, Kofi has been eager to share his latest work to a steadily growing fan-base which admire the rapper for being somewhat open and relatable when it comes to his songwriting. His collaborative approach to music and art-direction has also led him to become a renowned name as a Creative Director amongst the underground grime-scene and music industry alike; working alongside UK grime collective The Square, Dazed and Confused Magazine, Universal Music’s Island Records and was even approached to create some concept artwork for an unreleased Skepta track.
After receiving such a positive response to his previous project and wowing audiences at The Forge in Camden late last year, Kofi is set to return to the same London venue to play a live show on the 24th of April. He will announce further live dates in the very near future together with a new project later this year.
