Just a quick note to explain that Kiran Leonard’s debut album Bowler Hat Soup will now not be released on 26th August. The new release date is 4th November.
Normally when a release gets put back it’s due to some regrettable illness, wonky vinyl pressing GAH! or $$$ problems (or because it’s sh!t and no one likes it). Pleasingly, non of these apply to Kiran Leonard. Far from it, he’s in fine fettle and happily interrailing round Europe after completing his AS-Levels like all good 17 year olds should.
The original plan was to release Bowler Hat Soup as a limited run of 300 vinyl LPs through Hand Of Glory. However the attention Kiran’s attracted this year, particularly for the single ‘Dear Lincoln’ (it was playlisted this week at 6 Music), has enabled Hand Of Glory to present the album in the way Kiran had long envisaged: as a lavishly-packaged double LP, housed in a gatefold sleeve with all the trimmings and – most crucially – with the full tracklisting and songs in their full, unedited glory.
The aforementioned ‘Dear Lincoln’ – 111 seconds of Deerhoof of ragged, raw, melody pop – will still be released on a 7″ single on 2nd September.
“(‘Dear Lincoln’) is without a doubt the most invigorating song I’ve heard all year” PITCHFORK
