Some bands just seem to have the ability to shit riffs. We’re not talking those little widdly, technical things that musos love to cream themselves over. We’re talking bowel threatening, gargantuan slabs of 100% face smashing HEAVIOSITY. And London (by way of Bedford) based quartet KNIEVEL GENIUS are undoubtedly one of those bands. Indeed guitarist Andy Allen asserts that the band “is on a mission to create a riff so massive that it exerts its own gravitational pull”!!
And on their debut album ‘Inertia Kills Youth’, they might just have done it. Try listening to lead-off video single ‘CONS: EXECUTION’ and NOT gasping at the sheer immensity of that opening salvo.
Clearly KNIEVEL GENIUS have fed themselves a diet of Helmet, Sabbath, Kerbdog and anything else that would pump MORE riffing into their collective fingers since moving onto solid food.
Their love of all things musically crushing has already won them fans like the mighty Bruce Dickinson, Ian Camfield, Alex Baker from Kerrang Radio, the folks at Rocksound Magazine, not to mention the hordes of punters who have witnessed the all-out bludgeoning of the band’s live show already.
Their debut album, the riveting ‘Inertia Kills Youth’, was recorded with Jason Wilcock (Reuben, Fightstar, We Are The Ocean, Cars On Fire) at Stakeout Studios, London and is crammed with addictive, rocking tunes.
Frontman Pat asserts “We’ve been listening to a lot of Mastodon, Meshuggah and Tool, and although we don’t really sound like those bands, we wanted to explore some strange timings and song structures.” That sense of exploration and musical openness (when combined with THOSE riffs) makes for a totally compelling sound.
Existing a country mile away from the pop-rock outfits so ubiquitous in modern metal, KNIEVEL GENIUS are an alternative to the alternative….AND THEY ROCK!

“Knievel Genius bring sleazy, passionate rock music to the screamo generation. I love this band!”
BRUCE DICKINSON (BBC6 Music – THE ROCK SHOW)
“Combining different styles, with a punky edge similar to Gallows… then coming in with big rock ‘n’ roll choruses… yet it all works in one seamless behemoth of a track… it just totally blew my mind!”
ALEX BAKER (Kerrang! Radio – UNSIGNED ARTIST OF THE WEEK)
