NOV. 11, 2015 — L.A. Rapper F.Y.I. teamed up with PopMatters to debut his new track “Hueman” yesterday, coinciding with the release of his new EP Age / Sex / Location. PopMatters wrote that the song “combines clever wordplay with a strong message to listeners that there’s a lot more to individuals than mere black and white coupled with a strong, boisterous backing arrangement.”
On his new EP, F.Y.I.—formerly known as Foreshadow, and a co-founder of L.A. rap group Those Chosen—lays down track after track of triumphant hip-hop, showcasing his raw talent, relentless work ethic, singular creativity & deep commitment to hip-hop culture. Lyrically, Age / Sex / Location is about tearing up the rap game, striving for your goals & living life to the fullest while never looking back or doubting your path.

F.Y.I.’s charisma and passion for music eventually caught the attention of a European network that cast him to star in and co-host reality show Holland in Da Hood, which garnered a weekly one-million viewership for the duration of the series. The show was such a hit that when the first episode debuted it was the #3 trending topic worldwide on Twitter, just below the NFL’s season opener.
The Age / Sex / Location EP was recorded with producer and frequent collaborator Dual Output (50 Cent, Joe Budden), an early protege of Sha Money XL. Additional live instrumentation was provided by Charles Glenn of ‘80s Motown funk band Ozone, classically trained pianist Maria Marshall, and the Wylde Bunch’s Demont “Byg Sexy” Crawford, who sings the hook on “Our World.” F.Y.I. had a heavy hand in all aspects of production, writing and orchestrating all vocals and arrangements.
F.Y.I.’s musical journey began with Those Chosen in the mid 2000s, with whom he recorded over 100 songs, several music videos & mixtapes, and the critically acclaimed EP 5IVE, produced by Grammy winner IZ Avila (Usher, Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani). F.Y.I.’s debut record, Yo! The Places You’ll Go, went #1 on the hip-hop charts at WPTSradio (MTVu Woodie Award Winner for Best College Radio Station). The record featured guest verses from Ab-Soul and Rich Kidd, along with inventive beats that compliment the fearless, outspoken and sometimes controversial emcee on his new journey as a solo artist.
As in his new song “Hueman,” F.Y.I. is on a mission to color the world with his songs, tweets and videos. He believes people are multi-dimensional, an idea contrary to our social-media-driven world in which people have become increasingly comfortable with their two-dimensional profiles. Age / Sex / Location is a call to revive the true concept of humanity as a connected whole, and to remind folks to be their three-dimensional selves, highlighting F.Y.I.’s message-over-mayhem approach to hip-hop.

“An urgent, propulsive anthem ready to spread its wings and take flight over the City of Angels … inventive beats, sharp-tongued lyricism, & Kareem-caliber skyhook choruses.” – Paste
“Tells a story … mixes a festive soca-like rhythm with some hard hitting drums, which showcases that F.Y.I desires to take music somewhere fresh and innovative. It’s refreshing to see an emcee just provide us with dope music, dope visuals, and bars! ” – The Source
“Clever wordplay with a strong message to listen that there’s a lot more to individuals than mere black and white coupled with a strong, boisterous backing arrangement.” – PopMatters
“The Hip Hop summer track you desperately need. Full of energetic horns, grooving beats, and witty bars involving his preference for bow-legged women who are as fine as all outdoors, it’s a tune that appeals if you’re in the mood or some slick lyrics or if you just wanna dance.” –Earmilk
“Dynamite production incorporating live instrumentation, and a dynamite flow to match.”
– Buzzbands LA
“This is exactly why his music is unique. He is very charismatic with a production of soulful and deep lyrics that one can relate to when they’re down or happy. Overall his album is dope.”
