“The Last Pedestrians keep on trucking the light fantastic” – Jake Riviera, Stiff Records
The album: Battle of a Simple Man
Songs by Harry Stephenson, Wayne D. Evans and Phil Jackson. Songs written over lifetimes spent watching the unfolding smash and grab that passes for progress in our times. Lives spent writing from a jaunty angle about our stupidity, our greed, our hunger for power, our need to be right and the banal tragedies that are made of our lives as a result.
These are the signals from the smoking shelters of ‘broken Britain’: The chest rattling draws of discontent: The finger picked puffs of pontification, crocheted into song and wheezed amongst us.
Battle of a Simple man is The Last Pedestrians 5th studio album. It was recorded sporadically over 6 months at mouse house studios by Tony Foster. All the songs were recorded and sung live by the rhythm section initially in three days and then amended or dubbed in further sessions. The result is that these recordings more closely resemble The Last Pedestrians concert sound than any previously recorded material. There is no substitute for playing live but when you play this CD play it loud.
The Last Pedestrians play two special album launch shows
Sunday 4th December 8pm. The Navigation Inn, Wilford Street, Nottingham.
Wednesday 7 December 10pm The Dublin Castle, 94 Parkway, London. The Dublin Castle
The band: The Last Pedestrians
The origins of The Last Pedestrians lie in the late seventies Nottingham groups ‘Plummet Airlines’ and ‘Gaffa’. The latter playing innovative pop jazz and the former (signed to Stiff Records) playing twisted pub rock.
In the Turf Tavern in Nottingham a commuter was joined by the last pedestrian and the band in it’s current form started to emerge. Gradually other musicians abandoned their vehicles and started to walk side by side with Harry Stephenson and Wayne D. Evans. Now The Last Pedestrians is a strong five-piece band howling at the moon and whispering to the stars.
The Last Pedestrian are:
Harry Stephenson – vocals and guitar
Wayne D. Evans – vocals and double bass
Phil Jackson – vocals, electric guitar and mandolin
Paul ‘Beano’ Summers – piano
Richard Kensington – vocals and percussion
