“…the electropop hitmakers managed to repackage ’70s beats and vocals into a modern digital musical experience” – NYLON
“Joyrider’ is a song that seems to cruise through… climbing to a spectacularly cosmic climax” – NOTION
“…electronic beauty featuring a disco pop, funk-fuelled bassline” – Impose
After kicking off 2017 with excitedly received singles ‘Joyrider’ and ‘Shock Horror’ Shy Luv are back today with two new tracks ’Nightingale’ and ‘Never Let Me Down (Intro)’, rounding off their Shock Horror EP. Premiering on Pigeons And Planes, the full release is available to stream and download now.
Joining the trippy disco of the previously previewed EP title track (featuring JONES), whose arresting CGI-laden video has ranked up over 750k views between YouTube and Vimeo (where it was highlighted as a Staff Pick), and the lush nocturnal funk of ‘Joyrider’, which was trending on the Spotify Viral Chart (Global #22, UK #8, US #31) and went to #3 on Hype Machine, new vocal track ‘Nightingale’ alternates between silky soul vocals and bumping hip hop interludes, while the atmospheric string-laden EP opener ‘Don’t Let Me Down (Intro)’ builds to a powerful crescendo.

Released on Black Butter, the Shock Horror EP presents a new phase of the Manchester band’s evolution, traversing timeless disco, funk-punk and electronic sonic touchstones while carving out their own playful aesthetic and live, organic feel. All tracks are written, performed and produced by the band, with Karma Kid demonstrating he is not only an accomplished musician, writer and producer, but a talented front man as well.
Having made their live debut supporting SG Lewis at KOKO in November (they perform as a three piece with live vocals and instruments), Shy Luv have also announced several festival dates for this summer, with further show info to follow.
