After creating waves of tastemaker excitement with their debut single ‘The John Wayne’ in and a string of critically-acclaimed live shows at CMJ in New York, Little Green Cars have today been named on the BBC Sound of 2013 longlist – the BBC’s annual search for the very best in new music.
The wildly talented Dublin five-piece are one of fifteen acts to be announced on this year’s longlist – voted for by 213 influential UK-based music critics, editors, broadcasters and bloggers. The Top 5 will be announced, counting down 1 a day, from Monday 31st December before the overall winner is announced live on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show on Friday 4th Jan.
“We are delighted to be included on this list and really appreciate the support. We just can’t wait to come over to play some UK shows in February and get some more of our music out there for everyone to hear” said singer Stevie Appleby.
Last week the band announced a small number of highly-anticipated UK shows; they will play at Hoxton Hall in London on 26th February, the Soup Kitchen in Manchester on 27th February and at the Louisiana in Bristol on 28th February.
The band’s powerful debut single ‘The John Wayne’, boasting rousing drum beats, faultless vocal harmonies from boy/girl partnership Stevie and Faye, and emotionally charged lyrics from beyond their young years, was released last month on Glassnote Records / Island Records to outstanding critical acclaim. Stunning debut album ‘Absolute Zero’, produced by the prolific Markus Dravs who has delivered albums for Bjork, Arcade Fire and most recently Mumford & Sons’ latest offering Babel, is due to be released early next year.
