In heavy anticipation for the rumbling release of Primal Gnosis, Horse Latitudes have unveiled a video for the track “New Dawn”. The video itself is a massive 13 minute affair, created by Hans Lo, (with additional stock footage by Mitch Martinez and OrangeHD), and is an extremely involving, micro/macro experimental trip, which writhes in time with the music. Hans Lo, known for creating unique live show experiences for the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Jagwar Ma and the stage adaption for ‘Brave New World’, says that the video is “an esoteric summoning of imagery in the attempt to capture the parallel realm behind the rocks“.
The track itself features a spoken-word element from David Terry of labelmates Bong, and embodies Horse Latitudes’ magnificent knack at easing the listener into their sparse elements before turning everything upside down with their double-bass assault and caterwauls. Exploring terrains of commanding sonic thickness, raw distortion and for the listener, their impending ritualistic surrender to the primitive and unrelenting sonic, you can expect to be taken on a journey with this one.

Over the vast spans of their tracks, the doubled-up bass guitars assail and attack notions of sparsity with a complex sense of melancholia and aggression that, combined with the smashing constant of percussion, attain a disturbing momentum. A highpoint in their outré discography, and an impacting occasion for denizens of unconventional and colossally heavy music.
Primal Gnosis further marks the first studio contribution with Antti (Moog & noise), bringing a new dimension of dark synth into Vellu (bass), Heidi (bass) and Harri’s (drums & vocals) song-writing process. The album was recorded in two sessions during Autumn 2015, the first taking place at Studiogenes, Ikaalinen (engineered by Kalle Nurmi), and the second at Audiospot, Helsinki (engineered by Kimmo Tyni). The album was subsequently mixed by Kalle Nurmi and mastered by James Plotkin.
Horse Latitudes shall be celebrating the release of Primal Gnosis with a record release party with labelmates The Poisoned Glass at Kuudes Linja, Helsinki in their native Finland on 21st April.
