“IN MY HEAD – THE DARKER THE SHADOW THE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT“
Luxury online retailer mytheresa.com has joined forces with multi-talented Alexa Chung and musician Mike Skinner, collaborating to produce the second instalment of mytheresa.com tunes to launch Alexa Chung’s debut collection on ALEXACHUNG, as one of a very few selected partners.
In 2004 English musician, The Street’s Mike Skinner booked a then unknown model, Alexa Chung, to star in the music film clip of ‘I could well be in’. They met again for the first time in twelve years at a mytheresa.com intimate dinner in Germany and an idea ensued. To celebrate the launch of Alexa’s collection, mytheresa.com re-united them for the mytheresa.com tunes series. The song ‘In my head – the darker the shadow the brighter the light’, is classic Mike Skinner prose and features Alexa Chung narrating her way through Ireland, from the iconic Lismore Castle to the dive bars of Cork, in selected looks from her debut collection.
The project was directed by Mike Skinner. Watch the video here.
Being the first mytheresa.com woman in a series of inspiring women, there is a special bonding between mytheresa.com and Alexa Chung since 2013 when the first joint project launched. Since then Alexa Chung has attended several mytheresa.com events, but was also the main character of the very first mytheresa.com tunes instalment for the launch of AC by AG jeans, singing a cover of ‘Blue Denim’ by Stevie Nicks.
“It was so lovely to be reunited with Mike after all these years. I’m a huge fan of his and was at the time we made our first video together when I was I think 20 or 21. I suppose a lot has happened in the intervening time but it was nice to see how little he has changed. He’s very funny and clever and was an amazing director to work with because he managed to create very natural moments with someone who doesn’t know how to act. He wanted to explore that sort of Lost In Translation connection moment that happens between strangers sometimes where you have this great experience because of happenstance and it’s wonderful and special but sort of isolated and disconnected from your life path. I think he’s so good at observing human behaviour and unveiling the truth and that talent comes through in both his music and in this video he has made.” Alexa Chung
“Along time ago when things were very different I spent a few days with Alexa making a video for my song COULD WELL BE IN. So much feels different now that I thought it would be fun to use the footage as a flashback. The location for the video was Lismore castle where I’ve been dreaming of directing something for many many years. Imagining how the story might happen in real life, I imagined we could both end up there but in different ways. Me djing at my club night TONGA, and Alexa campaigning for her beautiful clothes.” Mike Skinner
