The debut EP ‘Inperfecta’ from Indie folk fusion duo Murder Of Crows which was released on 1st June and is available to download now from Duluth artists. Murder of Crows are Alan Sparhawk formally of LOW and Gealynn Lea who is a classically trained folk artist. Formed in 2011 when the two met and worked together on a live soundtrack at a Lon Chaney film screening and simply clicked. They have blended their own unique styles together to form something which is subtle and unique.
Mostly instrumental The EP has a haunting beauty to it as it swirls and ebbs around you with an almost physical presence. There is an undertone of melancholia to their sound which perhaps stems from Gealynn’s illness as she suffers from Osteogenesis Inperfecta a disorder that translates basically as brittle bones. It was also the inspiration for their EP’s title and has meant that their first live performance had to be screened over the internet from their rehearsal space .Despite the underlying sorrow there is an air of optimism to most of the songs and when Gealynn sings it is filled with joy. The one song that really shines out is ‘Let It Go’ which is sung with such heart and backed by deceptively simple instrumentals. 7/10
