Anya Marina Releases New Single
April 21, 2017 (Nashville, TN) — New York-based artist Anya Marina has released the second single, “Cut You Loose,” from her upcoming EP, Serious Love. Set for release on Good Rope Records and distributed by Tone Tree Music, Serious Love consists of four tracks representing Anya’s four stages of heartbreak.
STAGE ONE: “Serious Love”
That stage of infatuation, falling head over heels, and losing your mind. Anya says, “It feels like love—it feels fated, deep, connected, serious—yet, somehow, you sense you’re in for it. There’s tension in the words and the music and, in spite of the fireworks between you both, tin spite of the mutual desire, there is a growing sense that something is awry. It’s not a relationship—it’s a situation-ship.”
STAGE TWO: “Cut You Loose”
During stage two she says, “…the push-pull, hot-cold, off-and-on dance of your relationship, er, situation-ship is starting to wear on you. You can see signs of bad behaviour, and you’re tossing around the idea of a breakup.“
*Stages three and four are to be announced
All four songs on this EP were produced and co-written by Ian Keaggy (Hot Chelle Rae). After meeting Ian in June of 2016, the two of them hit it off immediately and Keaggy seemed to be able to find and capture Anya’s voice in a way that she’s never heard before. “The best my vocals have ever sounded are on Serious Love and these 4 songs,” recounts Marina. “Ian has a secret microphone set up I don’t quite understand, but the end result sounds incredible.”
After first building her career in the music industry as a radio DJ, Marina broke out in 2009 when her track “Satellite Heart” was included on the massively popularTwilight: New Moon soundtrack. Rolling Stone said Anya Marina sounded like, “…a mixture of Liz Phair sex appeal and Boswell Sisters cabaret with a dash of Jung.” SPIN Magazine also highlighted Marina in its 2008 column, ‘Breaking Out,’ for her sophomore release, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II. In 2009 she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and toured alongside Jason Mraz. And just last year she released her fourth LP, Paper Plane.
