Right after the single release, the song ‘Meltdown Corp.’ from their first record will be released on the cult compilation ‘The Reverb Conspiracy Vol. III’, out on Fuzz Club/The Reverberation Appreciation Society on 25 January. The double album brought together young bands from all over Europe, as usual, will feature some of the best acts of the Psych scene with 15 tracks including a Goat remix by Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre).
New Candys formed in 2008 with Fernando Nuti on vocals, guitar and sitar, Diego Menegaldo on guitar and vocals, Stefano Bidoggia on bass and Dario Lucchesi on drums. The band has been influenced by 60s psychedelic rock, especially The Velvet Underground and Syd Barrett. In August 2010 they released their first self-produced EP that caught the attention of the Italian independent press and since then they have been playing live continuously, sharing the stage with artists such as Crystal Stilts, Dead Skeletons, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Rose Windows, The KVB and many others.
In March 2012 they released their first album ’Stars Reach The Abyss’ on Foolica Records, mastered by Jon Astley. A tour in UK and a remix by John Wills followed that year. Two of the band’s members are also part of the European live line up for Lorelle Meets The Obsolete (Captcha Records/Sonic Cathedral).
The cover-art for ‘New Candy As Medicine’ was self-made by the band, and attempts to translate the album’s layers of sonic melodies into images with a mixture of different paper and surfaces glued together – the final result being a coordinated chaos – whilst the leitmotif for the album’s imaginary comes from Maya Deren’s surrealistic films together with the Patent Medicines’ period, when drugs compounds were sold pretending to be medications with exclusive ingredients.
New Candys will support the album with UK dates, to be announced soon.
