Roger Robinson reveals details of new EP ‘Bolder’ Stream track Horsedreamer
Horsedreamer is a band utterly in control of their emotions. Their songs are stripped of everything that is unnecessary.
Their focus is slowcore folk, sparse instrumentation, ambient textures, eerie tension and story songs. They leaves you with the experience of being submerged in a really great epic film where there are no heroes and affecting humility being the only option left. Roger Robinson began writing the lyrics for what would later become Horsedreamer back in 2009 but it wasn’t until he teamed up with songwriter and producer Piers Faccini that the project was born. Over the course of three sessions in Piers Faccini’s studio in the foothills of the south of France, they set to work writing and recording a collection of songs for the album. The songs were born out of Robinson’s gifts as a lyricist and Faccini’s skill in creating melodies and arrangements to marry the strength of the lyric. Like two artisans in the ancient craft of songwriting, they set to work in the solitude of Faccini ’s studio in the woods, crafting this haunting collection of songs.

“Piers invited me to his studio in Cevennes over to write one day, and I showed him these unfinished lyrics that I had been holding on to. Piers leapt right on it – we make a classic songwriting duo; where i bring word, Piers brings music and melody, filling in the blanks until the page is complete . And that was the beginning of our songwriting partnership – that’s when we became a team.” Friends for years their writing partnership is also bolstered by the fact that in their collective family histories lay half the worlds roaming and immigrant peoples. A fact reflected in their songs. The constant melancholy of being an outsider, but also the rebelliousness and survival instincts of displaced peoples.
Horsedreamer is the song of their ancestral roaming, echoing down from the highest peaks to the deepest of valleys and from the harshest of deserts to the greenest of meadows, quietly in the whispering winds, Horsedreamer is singing.
