Introducing FLOOR SIXX
— A new music platform for the UK Underground —
Launches tonight @ Mangle
*featuring Sian Anderson + a host of special guests*
Address: 2-18 Warbuton Road, London, E8 3FN
FLOOR SIXX is a new music platform (supported by Deezer) brought to you by Sian Anderson — 26 year-old media powerhouse, grime ambassador and arbiter of British underground music and Jason Black — J2K the artist and co-founder of Crep Protect.
FLOOR SIXX aims to celebrate the best underground music across a range of genres by releasing exclusive singles on the FLOOR SIXX hubs, bridging the gap between underground platforms and the mainstream. Grime will be the focus point for 2017, with an exclusive new track — each accompanied by its own music video —dropping on the platform each month across media channels including Deezer, VEVO, iTunes and Spotify.
The proceeds of each track will go into the FLOOR SIXX MUSIC ACADEMY (a mentoring programme run in association with Red Bull Music) that will see ten workshops, panels and seminars take place throughout August 2017, providing artists and the next generation of music moguls with the knowledge required to take their careers to the next level. Over time, FLOOR SIXX will come to serve as an authentic, trusted source for those looking to explore UK underground music in its entirety and a recruitment agency for employers in the media industry who are looking for keen, knowledgeable and educated young people to ultimately become the next generation of music executives.
“Artists had been coming to me throughout 2016 asking what they could do to help young people and give back to the community and this just seemed obvious, like “hey, lets do what we came here for, you make the music, I’ll market the music and together we’ll use income from the music to collectively mentor and educate the next generation of artists, producers and music moguls”. The FLOOR SIXX partners (VEVO, DEEZER and RED BULL) were like “yeah, lets do that” and Jason – who independently started the mixtape trend in the grime scene in 2003 – understood the necessity for educating artists. That; coupled with two number one singles (signed to major labels during his time at Roll Deep) and the commendable expertise gained from co-founding Crep Protect in 2012, made him the perfect person to partner with to bring FLOOR SIXX to life – Sian Anderson
FLOOR SIXX is important for our thriving scene to provide an outlet for individuals to not only get music out on the best platforms but to also gain knowledge of the industry. Being artists, dj’s, writers, directors, graphic designers etc. (and having to learn pretty much everything as we went along) is experience that has put us in the prime position to share credible knowledge from not only ourselves but from those who have lived and breathed it. This is key for the foundations of our scene to stay strong. – Jason Black
With releases from the likes of Jammz, Capo Lee and Drifter already underway and a host of surprises in-store over the next few months, stay locked for new updates on FLOOR SIXX, as campaigns from a host of established artists including Big Narstie, P Money, Killa P and Scorcher, as well as veteran producers Mike Skinner, Toddla T, Sir Spyro and Davinche, are all forecast. All tracks will also feature on the compilation FLOOR SIXX VOLUME 1, set for release in December 2017.
