New Zealand soul collective Sola Rosa announce the release of their new single, ‘Both of Us’, as a free download.
‘Both of Us’ is a hip-hop cut with a heavy bounce, and it demonstrates a host of classic influences with its P-Funk synth bass and soulful vocals. Rooted in the experience of live performance and the collaborative chemistry of the band, the single serves as a perfect introduction to the Sola Rosa sound.
The track features Kevin Mark Trail on lead vocals – a talent who has worked with the likes of award-winning composer Nitin Sawhney, Estelle, and UK rapper Black Twang, although he is arguably best known for his vocal contribution to The Streets, on singles such as ‘Push Things Forward’.
The group’s frontman Andrew Spraggon has also drawn on the expertise of session players Matt Short and Ben White, as well as guest vocalist Cherie Mathieson, who has worked extensively within the UK broken beat scene with producers such as Mark de Clive Lowe and Dego.
This core of musicians helped produce forthcoming LP, ‘Magnetics’, from which ‘Both Of Us’ is taken, and which features a number of high profile collaborations. These include Stones Throw stalwart Georgia Anne Muldrow, and New Zealand resident Noah Slee, who recently supported Jill Scott on tour, amongst other notable international talents.
With accolades including a no.1 on the New Zealand iTunes Chart and the Independent NZ Music Chart with their 2009 record ‘Get It Together’, Sola Rosa will celebrate the release of ‘Both Of Us’ and ‘Magnetics’ in the UK with performances at Green Man Festival, London’s Hoxton Square Bar and Grill, and the HiFi Club in Leeds.
