Oakland-based art-rocker James Riotto To release new EP, Mineral King
(Brooklyn, NY) As is the case with many musicians as they look towards the future, Oakland-based musician James Riotto found his place behind the boards working at the area staple Tiny Telephone Studios. The impetus to keep creating his own music has never dulled, and now Riotto is prepping to release his latest batch of expansive, world-building material, Mineral King.
After years spent fronting The Moanin Dove with Robert Shelton, Riotto began exploring the studio side of things working with John Vanderslice, Thao and Mirah (with Merrill Garbus), Shannon and the Clams, Ezra Furman, Charlie Hunter, Gem Club, Kacey Johansing, Astronauts etc., and many others. In an effort to keep pushing himself, Riotto crafted a new original solo work in Mineral King over the last year at Tiny Telephone as a sort of calling card.
The EP manages to transcend Riotto’s original expectations as the artist paints vast soundscapes with equal parts broad strokes and precision while drawing from complex personal narratives. With Mineral King, Riotto works through past and current hang-ups while continuing to sharpen the sharpen the stark sonic arrows in his quiver.
Look for Mineral King out this July via self-release and be sure to follow James Riotto on any of his channels detailed below.
