OUTFIT TO PREMIERE ‘SWAM OUT’ TONIGHT VIA SKYPE
FANS CAN CALL ANDREW P HUNT BETWEEN 10PM-11PM BST (USERNAME andrewoutfit )
NEW ALBUM SLOWNESS OUT 15TH JUNE 2015 ON MEMPHIS INDUSTRIES
At the beginning of last year, Outfit found themselves scattered across two countries and three cities, separated by life and love from each other and from those closest to them. ‘Swam Out’ is the song which most encapsulates this feeling of emotional and physical distance. It sees the band go from beaten and worn down to joyfully triumphant over the course of a song decorated with decaying Skype noises and 1AM phone calls.
It seems apt to premiere the track, then, not via a music website or on the radio, but directly over Skype from singer and pianist Andrew PM Hunt. Starting tonight, fans can call Andrew via Skype daily between 10pm and 11pm BST during the week of 11th May and hear ‘Swam Out’ on a loop [username- andrewoutfit]. They can hear it as many times as they like, and due to the phone call nature of Skype, listeners will only be able to hear the song one at a time, in a rare moment of online intimacy. Callers will also be subjected to the same glitches and imperfections in the network as the band were when forming their early ideas and speaking to their loved ones across the globe.
‘Swam Out’ is the closing track on the band’s second full length Slowness, in which Outfit paint a portrait of distance using haunting piano, piercing synthesizers and guitars, all underpinned by their trademark rhythm section. Slowness dwells on physical distance between lovers, the emotional distance when we return, and the ways in which we imagine each other thousands of miles apart. The idea of the Skype premiere is to reflect that feeling; waiting until the evening to catch a moment of something unique and personal.
