VIDEO DIRECTED BY PINS GUITARIST LOIS MACDONALD
DEBUT ALBUM GIRLS LIKE US RELEASED 30TH SEPTEMBER ON BELLA UNION
GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE TOUR IN OCTOBER
Manchester girl gang PINS have unveiled a new video for their single ‘Get With Me’. It was shot on Brighton beach by guitarist Lois MacDonald and, in keeping with their debut LP, is a strictly analogue affair.
PINS NEW VIDEO FOR ‘GET WITH ME’
“We are captivated with analogue equipment and recorded our debut album to tape. We love the rawness and tangibility of doing things this way. Lois dug her old Super 8 camera out and took it on tour earlier this year” said the band. Previously, like on the single’s flip side ‘Stay True‘, the band had collaborated with video directors: “We have had the pleasure of working with other people on our videos (Sing J Lee and Amy Watson) but also like to keep the DIY approach by making things ourselves. It’s genuine and real”. (Anna PIN made a video for ‘Shoot You’ last year following on from Sing J Lee’s ‘Eleventh Hour’)
Creating an air of noirish suspense, ‘Get With Me’ is decadent like blood red velour, freewheeling with the drive and menace of a Tarantino surf style soundtrack. ‘Get With Me’ / ‘Stay True’ is available on a limited 7″, but both songs are cornerstones of debut album Girls Like Us (Bella Union, 30th September).
Comparisons to other gangs (of New York) Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts will be inevitable, yet PINS’ femme fatale extends far beyond that of C86 tribute. Here seemingly straightforward guitar pop is choked with atmosphere created by group chants a la The Shop Assistants and the abrasive sonic experimentation of Jesus and Mary Chain.
Energetic, focused, and ruthless, Girls Like Us is the album PINS wanted to make and for us to hear. Please email for more information, for a copy of the album or for guestlist for their October tour.
