With a new focus to cut to the chase, let’s begin. The scrumptious ‘You Look Like I Need A Drink’ kicks off a little twee, it’s not until the vocal and the guitar hit home, that I perk up; That’s no slight, this is a good example of good songwriting, it is strong, funny, base, accessible and warm. Although PEI can be a little brutal on occasion, overall each song I have heard so far, just draws you in with whether the draw is of Scottish wit, warm sing-a0long bar choruses and/or the fine lyrical perception – it scores highly. Three, at least, good reasons why you should hear more.
A word of caution, the one genre I would not like them to be described as, would be as a ‘pop’ band. They are a lot more than yer typical bubble gum pop crap, for a start it has strong indie leanings. I would not like to see the ‘edges’ filed off, or the band’s sound numbed down by some exec looking for a yoof market. That is my only fear I think PEI are just right without any adjustment. This is the single, ‘You Look Like I Need A Drink’ out now at the start of August, just wait a few weeks till the end of the month (29th August) for their debut album, ‘I Love This Band’. Something new to rave about. 8/10
